When Are Shadows Created?

In childhood, we suppress some of our natural impulses, anger, or joy to be loved and approved. Every suppressed emotion is pushed into the dark basement (the shadow).

The first step of shadow work is being able to go down to that dark basement, hold the hand of the child waiting there in fear, and say, 'You are safe now, I love you just the way you are.'
