The Healing Power of Tears
One of the most common and correctly known dream interpretations among the public is this: "Crying in a dream is laughing in real life." Psychologically, this traditional interpretation is also completely correct. Tears, just like in water symbolism, represent the flow of emotions, cleansing, and purification. All the pain you suppress to appear strong in your waking life is expelled as tears in your dream. This process is called Catharsis (emotional release) in psychology.
Sobbing Loudly
If you are screaming and wailing in your dream, it shows that the burdens you carry internally have reached an unbearable level. However, the dream throws off this burden for you. When you wake up from such dreams, you feel a great lightening and relief in your chest. It is the herald that you will receive very good news in real life and a long-awaited problem will be solved.
Shedding Tears Silently
If you see yourself crying silently, this mostly represents the "acceptance" phase. It is a naive sadness felt after an old event mourned within you, an ended relationship, or a lost chance. Silent tears show that the soul is slowly healing its own wounds.
Crying for Someone Else
Crying for someone you know in a dream is an indication of your deep empathy and love for that person. Sometimes (paradoxically) it is your subconscious punishing a hidden anger you feel towards that person by "crying/mourning". By putting that person in a lamentable situation in your dream, you are satisfying the feeling of revenge within you.
