The Archetypal and Vital Power of the Sun
The Sun, the energy source of the universe, always represents "the state of consciousness, the enlightenment of truth, and masculine power (father figure, authority)" in dreams. As the opposite of the moon shining in the dark of night (subconscious), the sun symbolizes the revelation of all hidden things and the joy of life.
Seeing the Sunrise (Dawn)
If you watch the darkness end and the sun rise in your dream, this is the clearest sign that despair and sadness are over. A brand new, bright period (dawn) is beginning in your life. Spiritually, it also shows that your mind is working very clearly (lucidly).
The Sunset (Dusk)
The setting of the sun is not always bad; it generally describes "completion". It is the successful end of a project, the peace of old age, or the time for "rest (sleep)" after a very long period of fatigue. However, a sun that sets suddenly and leaves everywhere in pitch darkness can also symbolize a suddenly lost hope or the loss/illness of a father figure.
Seeing a Solar Eclipse
It is a rare but very shocking dream. The sun being covered by the moon is "your consciousness (logic) being temporarily held captive by your emotions (moon)". It indicates a dark period (depression or scandal) in waking life where you cannot think logically and that bright authority inside you is damaged.
